Updated: Apr 2

If you love the sound of tap shoes on the floor and the thrill of a good shuffle-ball-change, TapUK 2024 was the place to be! This year's festival was a whirlwind of workshops, performances, and heartfelt moments, all set against the backdrop of ATD’s 30th anniversary.

30 Years of Tapping Memories

The event also marked an emotional farewell to Penny Smith, who has been the heart and soul of ATD for three decades. Penny’s dedication and passion shaped the association into the vibrant community it is today. A moving tribute on Saturday night saw dancers past and present honour her with performances and a beautifully curated album of memories.

Though stepping back, Penny’s legacy continues to inspire. Florence Sharma, who has stepped in to take over is poised to lead the association into an exciting future, promising fresh ideas like a new website, monthly newsletters, and the return of beloved events like the Autumn Tap Festival in 2025.

Dancing Highlights

From beginner to advanced, the workshops were a hit, with highlights including Diane Hampstead’s inventive “Wellies” class and Jamie Read’s dynamic musical theatre sessions. The instructors’ infectious energy ensured every dancer, no matter their skill level, left the floor smiling (and maybe a little sore!).

The Saturday Showcase was a feast for the eyes and ears, with performances from groups like the Essex Belles and Tappenings. Special guest Jason Di Mascio’s duet with his daughter added a personal and magical touch to the evening.
